On February 3, 2019 the LIII Superbowl will be held and our very own Gladys Knight will be performing the National Anthem which is being held in her hometown. Many rumors are going around and tweets are being tweeted that she should be silenced and being criticized for taking the gig and how can she perform when Kaepernick took a knee for our racial rights. Knight allegedly said she understood what Kaepernick did and what he stood for, but this opportunity is for her to give the National Anthem its voice back so she says.
Why does this affect us as people? The tweets that were being made just were not called for, not understanding Gladys Knight’s reasoning of taking the gig. One tweet actually made sense because they stated why are we silencing Gladys Knight but the ones trying to silence her are watching the game? People just want to talk and have something to say when they don’t know the true meaning behind anything. By Gladys Knight singing the National Anthem is actually a honor because she gets to give back to her community by expressing through her voice our freedom.
My only question for this whole topic is, why are people handling it in such a childish manner? Yes Kaepernick did the right thing in my opinion by kneeling for our injustice rights and him losing his job after that was not fair but by Gladys Knight singing the National Anthem is paving a way to more freedom.
