Cook County grand jury charges Smollet with 16 counts of disorderly conduct. Mark Geragos, one of Smollett’s attorneys and a CNN legal analyst, said the actor maintains his innocence and called the indictment “prosecutorial overkill.” For the attack late January Smollett reported to detectives in February it was a homophobic and racial attack by two men. After police detained two brothers who were “persons of interest” in mid-February, police sources revealed that authorities suspected Smollett knew the men and allegedly had paid them $3,500 to stage the attack. The men were released without being charged.Smollett has denied any involvement in orchestrating an attack. Smollett was charged in February with felony disorderly conduct. The judge granted a $100,000 bail, and Smollett paid a $10,000 bond. He was ordered to give up his passport and will remain under supervision until his case is adjudicated. He remains out on bail pending an arraignment Thursday. Producers behind “Empire” decided to remove Smollett’s character, Jamal, from the final two episodes of the season. The decision was made to “avoid further disruption on set,” producers said.
This case has been going forth for some months. For Smollett to plan this attack out is hard to believe. The whole situation just does not make sense. A lot of Empire fans are going to be upset because Smollett played a big role in Empire. He is out right now on bail so further information should be released soon.
Will he ever get to come back to Empire? Why do people think he is lying? Why is he being harassed so heavy?
